As pickleball continues expanding rapidly across Europe, the sport is increasingly moving beyond traditional sports facilities and becoming part of larger lifestyle, entertainment and social experiences. The latest example comes from Madrid, where a major redevelopment project in the city’s northwest area is set to include a dedicated pickleball social club as one of its central attractions.
According to a report by elmundo.es, the former Sixth Avenue shopping complex in El PlantĂo is being transformed into a new lifestyle destination called Lesix, with pickleball playing a significant role in the project’s new identity.
The redeveloped complex will feature Electric Pickle, a US-inspired social club concept that combines pickleball courts with food, drinks and entertainment spaces.
The venue is expected to include six outdoor pickleball courts along with a bar and hospitality area, reflecting how the sport is increasingly being integrated into premium social environments rather than operating purely as a standalone recreational activity.
The Lesix redevelopment has been led by Saint-Croix, the real estate investment company linked to Pryconsa, which has reportedly invested around 40 million euros into the transformation of the site.
The overall project includes restaurants, cinemas, fitness spaces and nightlife concepts, but pickleball has emerged as one of the development’s standout sporting features.
The new complex is located in Madrid’s affluent northwest zone, with surrounding areas including Pozuelo, Las Rozas, Majadahonda and Boadilla del Monte — regions known for some of Spain’s highest per capita income levels.
Developers behind the project said the goal was to create experiential destinations rather than traditional retail spaces, with pickleball fitting naturally into that strategy due to the sport’s growing social appeal.
Across Europe, pickleball has continued gaining momentum through clubs, private facilities and community programs, particularly in countries such as Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom and France.
The addition of pickleball to major lifestyle and entertainment developments also reflects how the sport’s image is evolving globally. What was once seen primarily as a recreational paddle sport is increasingly becoming part of broader wellness, hospitality and social entertainment trends.
And with projects like Lesix now placing pickleball alongside premium dining, cinemas and nightlife concepts, the sport’s expansion into mainstream urban lifestyle culture appears to be accelerating further across Europe.
